On March 24, 1989, the tanker Exxon Valdez grounded on Bligh Reef in the upper part of Prince William Sound. The tanker was carrying approximately 53 million gallons of crude oil. Within a few days, it had spilled almost 11 million gallons of the oil into Prince William Sound. It was then that the “Double Eagle” was brought to Alaska to work and serve as a crew quarters during the cleanup.

There is a walking/bike path that runs to town, as well as a few miles in the other direction. Second Home has two bedrooms with 2 kings (1 can be made into 2 twins with notice), plus a twin bed in master and twin roll away. The bathroom has a walk-in shower and connects the master & living room. The large kitchen is fully equipped, and you will just need your food & drinks. There is also a grill and outdoor fire pit for your use. Complimentary internet access is available, and you have access to a private Washer/Dryer in unit. Two small private decks overlook the property. A huge organic raspberry patch, which ripens late July through August, is a nice addition to any meal. There can be moose and sand hill cranes in the yard to enhance your Alaskan experience. The property is approximately 3 acres (mostly grass, wild roses and raspberry bushes). A new queen bed plus a loft with two singles with incredible views of pastures, mountains, glaciers, on historic seaside farm property right on the shores of Kachemak Bay. A "dry" cabin, but with access to clean indoor bathroom/shower facilities in the main farm lodge a short walk away. We provide potable water in the cabin, which has a sink, modern little kitchenette with fridge, cook stove, microwave, coffee pot and all linens provided plus electric heating. Has own personal outhouse in back. Sit on the front porch, grill your salmon on the barbeque and enjoy the amazing views and wildlife surrounding our cabin--eagles, sandhill cranes and songbirds all over our property. (We are a reknown birders hotspot! ) Or walk down to the beach and hike the pristine shore, watch otters, sea ducks, shorebirds, or beach comb.

The Dovetail Log Cabin has a 280-degree view with large picture windows and large A-frame windows in the loft bedroom to take in the awesome panorama views. The main floor has a full kitchen and dining room, full bath and a wonderful bay window and lounger for relaxing. A spiral staircase leads to a large loft bedroom with a queen size log bed, as well as a queen sleeper sofa. The sofa in the living room on the main floor is also a hide-a-bed for additional guests. Outside you will find a deck with lounge furniture and a gas grill for cooking the catch of the day. You will find all the amenities of home including satellite TV, videos, games and a telephone.
